Weak sauce from AT&T...

So if you've seen the AT&T commercials lately with Luke Wilson, you've seen that they are a little bent outta shape about Verizon's ads making it seem like Verizon's coverage is far and away better than AT&T's. Well this one is another attempt to fight back, and it sooooooo weak that its annoying. Before you watch it, remember what the supposed claim is they are supposedly responding to, and then listen to see how they rebut...

Under 'Advertisements,' click on 'Marbles'

So you're response is that lots of people like the phones you sell? What the %^*& does that have to do with who's coverage is better? Seriously, I think Luke Wilson was better as a coma patient in 'While You Were Sleeping'...or was that Bill Paxton or Bill Pullman? Whatever, doesn't matter...

UDPATE - Ok, setting the record straight, Paxton got shot up in Tombstone (sweet), Pullman was in the coma, and apparently Luke Wilson was in 'Getting Drunk with Will Ferrell' (Old School)

Bringing back a classic...

Remember those Bud Light 'Real Men of Genius' commercials from a few years ago? Hilarious commercials that weren't based on funny animals, fart noises or crotch shots - a true rarety. For some reason they stopped making them, but lately I've heard this one on the radio - here's hoping they make a comeback...

Down to the Night Club...Bump...Bump...Bump...

Ok, question: what do you do when you have an inferior product?

Answer: imitate Mac stores.

Another question: what do you do when still nobody thinks you're more hip than the competition?

Another answer: SO LETS DANCE!!!!

Misfit Phones...Awwww

Using an iconic movie like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in a commercial is a gutsy move. Screw up and you horrify your customers. Its definitely an 'all-in' move. Well, this Verizon commercial knocking AT&T is great - perfectly in the spirit of the movie, without going too far. And definitely makes the point! Judge for yourself:

What is this, 1992?

Great commercial for the new PS3, highlighting the fact that there is apparently more to PS3 than just playing video games (huh?). The funny/ironic thing about this is that I've had a Wii for a few years now, and just recently realized I could hook it up to the net. Sheesh. Someone should start a new blog - MyKidsDontKnowAnythingAboutElectronicsEither.com. Enjoy the commercial - love the guy - he's great.

Howie Long's smugness is ugly...

If you watch football on FOX, you are forever entertained by the banter between Howie Long's hair-helmet (do you think he even needs haircuts?) and Terry Bradshaw's what-will-he-say-next insanity. However, outside the studio, Howie is not quite as entertaining. I want to go on record saying I'm sick of his smug little smile in the Chevy ads bashing Ford F-Series. Did someone not tell him the train he's hitched to ran off a cliff and is now a ward of the state? The worst example is this little dig at the F-150's 'man-step'.

What's ironic about this is the idea that Howie Long is at Home Depot/Lowe's picking up some building materials for a DIY project. Yeah.

FOX has gone too far with the commercials...

Is nothing sacred in baseball anymore?? Its bad enough that the first 20 minutes of every postseason game is a plug for something - the "Home Depot Tools to the Game" or the "Budweiser First Pitch" or the "Preparation H Crotch Scratch of the Game." Ok, the last one was made up, but just wait. Good thing only us Hobbs read this. I think we crossed some line, though, tonight, with the entire game intro intermixed with audio and video from a stupid sci-fi movie 'Avatar.' Seriously, if you missed it, you missed out.

My jaw dropped as the serious voice talked about how each team wanted to 'make a statement' tonight, and then some clip from the movie with the characters saying 'We need to send a message!' Come on. Can all baseball fans pay some FOX tax of a buck a game to not have to hear that?

And don't even get me started about Buck and McCarver spending an entire at-bat talking football. Apparently the WORLD SERIES isn't interesting enough. But I digress.

On a good note, I really like the MLB 'Beyond Baseball' stuff, photos and video of the players when they were kids. Very cool.

May You Stay Forever Young

Alright, you saw this concept first in the Superbowl. Joe-D certainly doesn't hurt it. You may not like Bob Dylan. You may not like Will I Am. You may not like Pepsi. You are a fool if you don't like this commercial!!

So-so product, but commercial made me look into it...

I always find totally new product launches pretty interesting. Initial commercials are a great chance to do something different and unique. The new phone by Verizon-Google-Motorola is coming out in November, and I really like their ad running now. Now, I'm very happy with my Blackberry Storm. Might get an iPhone if someone gave it to me, but no complaints. But despite this, the commercial definitely caught my curiosity and made me look into it. Turns out the specs are only incrementally better than iPhone (whatever, Casey - look it up!), but the ad is pretty cool nonetheless:

Mac's new commercial = a punch to PC's gut

Casey - you can just ignore this post. Quit smirking. So the latest edition of the Mac vs. PC commercials are out during the World Series (go Phils!), and after being impressed with the Windows 7 one - with the guy demonstrating the innovation that he came up with and sent to Microsoft - I feel like I got kicked in the nether region after watching the Mac commercial, which is making me feel ashamed to be excited about Windows 7:

Poor PC - the flip-shades are truly cringe-worthy...

Southwest Airlines-Bring It

This is a great commercial. 1) It calls out the competition without ever naming them and 2) It's totally relavent, what the heck do they think they are charging for suitcases to fly!, and 3) It's a catchy little rap-jingle.

A classic...

This blog wouldn't be complete without one of the best local commercials of all time. I'm not sure how to intro this - if you've seen it before then you know what's coming (dinets? we got it!). If you haven't, then climb out from under the rock you've been under and check this out:

h/t Jay - good call...

Buy a Black Jack Taco...Please!!!

If you're like me, you've been disgusted and confused by those stupid Taco Bell commercials promoting this 'Black Jack' taco. As if there's another way to combine meat, cheese, and lettuce. Well, apparently no one is willing to plunk down even 89 cents for one of these suckers, cause now the Bell is giving them away in an attempt to get rid of the high inventory of black taco shells they've got (trying to make it seem like a planned, Halloween event):

Everything about the picture grosses me out - limp lettuce and cheese, unknown sauce, dry crumbly meat in a BLACK shell. A note about this - I've heard the shells are actually dark blue, like blue corn chips, which would make a lot more sense if they advertised it that way. At least we've seen and tasted blue corn before. Black is not usually a flavor-color combo that's attractive...

We'll see if any other decent commercials pop up during the World Series...although I'm sure everyone in New York has tuned out by now...

Its about time...

Its about time someone took Snuggies down a peg or two...I'm sure we can all agree that the blanket did not need any new technological developments. It was perfectly fine how it was! If you're having trouble reading or using the remote while undera blanket, well, then tough it the heck out - life is supposed to be hard. You'll appreciate it all that much more when you realize what a great invention the SWEATER is. Its like a blanket with arms!!

I wish I had the money to go and buy a Subaru just to thank them...

Live from...its Hobbs Going Commercial

Let's begin with this gem from somewhere in The-South-Will-Rise-Again, Alabama (no offense Casey, but the guy's name is Robert Lee). Enjoy...
